Red Carpet Roxy in Karen Kane Top

In a recent post on Red Carpet Roxy, Roxy wore the Karen Kane Southhampton Contrast Top (3L25192) in her “Wine + Black & White” look. Paired with wine jeans and heels, the Karen Kane top looks great for a night out. Wear the same top with a pencil skirt, and you have a great look for the office.

CIA: Not Just National Security

This past weekend, I headed to Westchester to celebrate my boyfriend and his brother’s birthday with their family outside the city. From their home in Yorktown (think mountain trails, crickets chirping, and the crisp feel of autumn in the air) we took a drive up to the CIA. While lie detector tests, and information on past secret operatives may have been more appealing to the boys, we were not headed to the Central Intelligence Agency. Where we were headed, was the Culinary Institute of America.

Alma Mater to famous epicurean alumni such as David Burke, Anthony Bourdain, Rocco DiSpirito, and even Lonnie and Karen Kane’s own niece, the CIA is known for it’s rigorous training in technique, taste, and creative culinary endeavors. The beautiful campus, idyllic in the New York countryside, boasts several student restaurants where family and foodies alike can go to sample their executions of five-star delicacies.

We ate in the famed french outpost, Escoffier and the menu and wine list did not dissapoint.  Our server, a little green for an impending graduate, made a few mistakes along the way but more than made up for it with his flaming flambe.

My boyfriend, Avi, and I outside the CIA.

Hubby Happy Hour

It’s very easy to take “date night” for granted before the arrival of kids into the family dynamic. Because let’s face it, every night really is date night, it just depends if you are spending time with your significant other “in” or “out”.

The hubs and I try to do date night or even date afternoon once a week, or at the very least twice a month. On Friday, we snuck in a quick Happy Hour date  and split some nachos and one (okay two) margaritas at one of our favorite spots in Boca, Rocco’s Tacos. The 1/2 nachos are only 5 bucks, and soooooo delicious. It’s the perfect appetizer for two: satisfies the craving, but doesn’t fill you up for dinner.

Conversation between me and the hubs every time we go to Rocco’s:

Hubs: “What’s this?” (points to menu) … I am of Colombian descent so he figures I can translate
Me: “Cojita. It’s a mild white cheese. You ask me this EVERY time we eat here.” note: we’ve dined at Rocco’s at least 6 times now

For our “date night” I wore my new Karen Kane striped tie front top (3K77155 on-line if you dig it and want to check it out). I paired it with a black Karen Kane jean (like these) and gold jewelry. I felt comfy and well dressed for our rainy Friday date!

There are a few Rocco’s locations in South Florida, so if you’re ever in the area and looking for some great inexpensive Mexican food, look them up! You won’t be disappointed.
